My '89 Ford Ranger, 4X2, Five speed manual trans, 2.9 engine has a rod knock. My original thought was to go through the trouble of putting a 302 in. However, I was informed by the Nevada DMV that it is a violation to swap an eight into a vehicle manufactured with a six cylinder engine.

A V-8 swap is ideal for the offroad Ranger prodject but I ran into a guy who is selling me a 90 Bronco II 4x4 with a 2.9L V6 5 speed manual...PLEASE tell me if this swap (engine/tranny) will work! This will save me thousands of $$$.

May 6, 2012 · But if you did, what I mean by electrical is entire engine management system and interior electrical system is totally different from a '03 and older truck for interior, '06 and older truck for engine management. 5.0 Explorer ended in '01. Making a pre '04/06 Ranger into a 5.0 is pretty straight forward.

Apr 25, 2009 · I have a 1998 Ranger Ext Cab w/ 3.0 & 120,00mi. I also have a 2000 Crown Vic Police Interceptor w/ 4.6 & 20,000mi (yes, 20,000 miles). Considering an engine swap in the Crown Vic (5.4l). Wondering how difficult it would be to drop the 4.6 into my Ranger. Anyone out there done this before? Any suggestions or tips? Regards, Mark
