Things started to change just before the Second World War. In 1938, The Fire Brigades Act set up a training centre for special fire service courses and in 1941, the National Fire Service was set up as the single unified fire service for Great Britain.

The course covers topics such as the science and behaviour of fire, fire gas ignitions, flashover and backdraught, container systems (gas and carbonaceous), small-scale simulation, door assessments, water application and techniques, BA equipment training, exercise planning/control, and incident study.

The FSC Fire Behaviour Training Instructor course is aimed at personnel experienced in the design and delivery of safe and effective compartment fire behaviour training in their fire and rescue service.
