Dec 21, 2024 · Option 2: most keyboards let you "lock" the Fn krey. Look for a key with a little lock symbol or the text fn lock. On my keyboard it is the Esc key, but it varies between brands. Fn+lock key will let you press F1, F2 etc. without pressing Fn (and if you want to change the volume or screen brightness, press Fn+F1 etc.)

Feb 23, 2016 · If you are playing on a laptop, see if you have a "Fn" key on the keyboard. Mostly likely what has happened is that your computer is configured to require the Fn (function) key to be pressed in order to send F1-F12 keystrokes, instead of the "media" keys like volume up, volume down, screen brightness, etc.

The mod Rebind all the keys lets you rebind F3 and many other keys. As of 1.21, there is no method in Vanilla. It might also be possible with external tools. For example, simulating an F3 key press when pressing some other key/combination while Minecraft is in focus seems like something AutoHotKey could do, but I have not tried this.

May 5, 2024 · In none of these scenarios, I was able to change the brightness using the action key combination. When doing the 2nd case above, I had to try Ctrl+F3/F4. With the 1st and the 3rd case, I tried Fn+F3/F4. Other action key combinations continue to function just fine. Only the brightness action key combination isn't working since that update.

I have only personally used OSK rarely for doing things like remote troubleshooting and the like. You could have some difficulties using the OSK in game, unless you have a second monitor or are able to run the game in borderless windowed mode.
