This chapter recounts the story of Israelites' liberation from Egypt. As they commence their journey, the Lord reminds Moses to consecrate every firstborn male, both human and animal, and orders the observance of the feast of unleavened bread as a reminder of their exodus.

There were two ways from Egypt to Canaan. One was only a few days' journey; the other was much further about, through the wilderness, and that was the way in which God chose to lead his people Israel. The Egyptians were to be drowned in the Red sea; the Israelites were to be humbled and proved in the wilderness.

Introduction: Exodus Chapter 13 continues God’s statutes for celebrating the Jews’ deliverance from the oppressive hand of Pharaoh in Egypt. The festivals that celebrated the Jews’ deliverance all foreshadowed Christ (Col. 2:16-17).
