Oct 5, 2015 · When I installed El Capitan, the iPhoto app in the dock was replaced by the Photos app. However, I had to manually move the old iPhoto app from the Applications folder to the trash. You can drag the iPhoto app out of the dock. If the Photos app is not there, you can drag it from the Applications folder into the dock. Fred

Apple removed that preference from this app. There was a preference in iPhoto/iTunes etc. and there was even a terminal command you could run to stop it (defaults write com.apple.ImageCapture disableHotPlug -bool YES) but it doesn't work in El Capitan, I've tried.

Just another example to me of apple's continuing issues with syncing. If I want my iphone photos in the photos app and dropbox, I need to now let them first go to photos; and then export them to my dropbox.
