Jerry Douglas, Rob Ickes, Mike Auldridge, Rusty Young, Shot Jackson, - those are the names that come to mind for classic country, country rock, and pop dobro. Stacy Phillips was a great ambassador for dobro as a player and instructor for a variety of musical styles.

WEBAug 19, 2017 · 1980-1988 OMI Dobro: 8 (#)### yD configuration. 8 is the decade of manufacture (8=1980s). 2 or 3 or 4 numerals in center are serial number for year. Numeral y before letter is last digit of year. Last character is body type: D=wood, B=metal. Doesnt fit because the body type character is first. 1988-1994 OMI Dobro: A# #### yyD configuration.

WEBFeb 25, 2014 · The current favorite with most is the Fishman piezo bridge pickup. Use it with an Aura pedal. There's lots of discussion about this here and at the reso site. Not cheap. Best to have a qualfied tech install it, like Paul Beard. If you play in a loud band with drums and bass , it might not cut it. In fact, nothing cuts it (my experience).

WEBJul 12, 2014 · I have a average priced dobro. When I play it, the lower strings seem to sound clunky, or more dead than the higher strings. I have researched sets of strings for the Dobro. Straight GBDGBD tuning. It seems that most sets come with a .056 low G string. That is about the same size as a low E string for a regular acoustic guitar.

WEBJan 13, 2013 · Instead of the dobro G tuning as the basis, I use open G tuning (low to high, EGDGBDAC as my basic tuning. Strings 7 through 3 allows for traditional bluegrass patterns and melodies. The "E" on string 8, gives me the minor 6th scale tone, and being it's on the bottom, out of the way, I can use it as needed.
