Late to the party - Finally tried a DiMarzio D Activator!
Dec 7, 2023 · The D Activator is almost got a mid-output pickup vibe, except with more power to push. Honestly, though, if you're expecting a passive EMG 81, this it not it. The Duncan Black Winter or the DiMarzio X2N capture that vibe a whole lot more, but even those sound nothing like an EMG 81 either. It's just not possible.

Jun 16, 2023 · The Steve Special is my #1 favorite higher gain Dimarzio. That would hands down be my recommendation if you’re looking to stick with Dimarzio. I really don’t like the Super Distortion personally. Otherwise, I am a diehard Bareknuckle loyalist and they make a ton of different high gain pickups that are all incredible in their own ways.

Jan 9, 2018 · Dimarzio seems to have come up with the ideal recipe for high-output pickups that don't compress all crappy like the Duncan Distortion, Gibson 500, etc. They've come up with a number of ceramic, high output pickups lately including the Dominion, Transition, Imperium, Illuminator, and of course the Titan, which all sound great distorted and clean.

What do we think of Ibanez Quantum Humbuckers? | The Gear Page
Dec 1, 2018 · IMO, the only decent pickups Ibanez has ever made are the Super 58s and Super 70s. Everything else ranges from bleh to awful. The Quantums were even worse than the V series pickups. Anything by Dimarzio will be a huge upgrade. I have an RG with a Virtual PAF and Air Norton, and another one with an Air Norton and AT-1. My AR-50 still has Super 70s.

Bright and tight and excellent sound for modern day Heavy Metal. I've also used both Distortion bridge and neck models which I thought were good for old school Heavy Metal.
