Near-Surface 2D Imaging via FWI of DAS Data: An Examination on …
Feb 23, 2023 · Full waveform inversion (FWI) and distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) are powerful tools with potential to improve how seismic site characterization is performed. FWI is able to provide true 2D or 3D images of the subsurface by inverting stress wave recordings collected over a wide variety of scales.
Here we present a novel method for the inversion of the strain data supplied from DAS fibres of arbitrary geometry. Our method is also powerful in its ability to simultaneously invert geophone and DAS data without altering the form of the gradient.
Seismic monitoring for CO2 sequestration: DAS + FWI + ML
Sep 1, 2021 · Time-lapse distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) has been proven recently as a viable technology for CO 2 monitoring; full-waveform inversion (FWI) and machine learning (ML) methods have become robust and practical tools in multiple applications in general, and in CO 2 monitoring in particular.
We adapted the FWI methodology for an innovative application on the 3D DAS shot gathers. Compared with the traditional 4D time-lapse surface seismic, the new 3D DAS technology demonstrated some advantages and limitations.

Distributed acoustic sensing: modelling, full waveform inversion, …
Distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) is a rapidly evolving seismic acquisition technology. Employing rugged and small optical fibers, DAS offers an opportunity for access to acquisition geometries often not accessible to more conventional geophone sensors.
Recent advances, in the use of distributed acoustic sensors (DAS), may hold the key to remediation of these problems. Distributed acoustic sensors employ a continuous optical fibre, offering tighter spatial sam-pling at a greatly reduced cost, especially in the borehole environment.
