Questions about DAS air drying clay

If anyone have tips to add about using this clay I forgot to ask about I sure appreciate it. :lol. First about the Clay;
What kind of clay do you use to sculpt over styrofoam?
WEBOct 4, 2011 · DAS air dry has little to no shrinkage when it drys and I have used it over styrofoam/floral foam many times. Sculpey/heated clays usually shrink and I have almost always had them crack over time or right away when curing over a solid form.

Apoxie Sculpt has my vote too as a better material, but if the deal is to make the mask out of material you already have at hand, then I see no reason not to attempt the air dry clay. It may work or it may not and if it fails, you can always go for the apoxie sculpt for the second try.

WEBMar 31, 2010 · As for the clay I bought, the model # is 46310F, and the box looks different than the other Amaco air dry clays I've seen, so I think the box may be old. That would explain the 1/25/10 date stamped on the bottom. It appears to be this clay though. The UPC is the same anyway:

WEBSep 5, 2017. #6. Another option might be to use cold porcelain. It would be similar (not as durable) as the suggestion Strikerkc made. You can buy it pre-made or you can mix it yourself (the recipe isn't hard and it is cheaper) which would air dry. It would also be more durable than clay.

WEBMay 31, 2012 · Active Member. Jun 1, 2012. #7. If you have trouble with the clay sticking to the plaster, put a little vaseline (petroleum jelly) on the surface. the clay will stick better. Also you can heat the first layer of the clay so it grabs better. This works if the plaster is either too wet or too dry and powdery.

WEBJul 7, 2020 · The mouth uses a micro servo and the 3 axis neck uses 2 micro servos to make the head go up and down or tilt left and right. The neck also has a full size servo to turn the head left or right and another full size servo to lift the whole body up/down. Then a little one for the stump. it took a while to shoehorn them all in.

WEBJan 8, 2011 · You can brush several layers of liquid latex over your sculpt. This usually takes some time, because you have to let each layer dry before you apply another layer. Then put the plaster over the latex. After that is dry you can remove the plaster, and latex. Then place the latex back into the plaster. I have used fiberglass in latex several times.
