Back in the early 1900’s, visitors would arrive from Denver by train, and stay at the Crags Hotel, which was perched 800 feet above the canyon floor. The resort even had its own incline railway to take visitors in and out of the canyon. Nowadays, you can explore the ghosts of that bygone era, by hiking the Rattlesnake Gulch Trail.

The steep 2.8 mile round trip hike leads you to the historic Crags hotel. Built in 1908, an inclined railway took families from the canyon floor to the 40-room hotel. Patrons came to eat, drink, dance, sing and gamble while enjoying the view of Eldorado Canyon below.
