The Charterhouse gardens comprise Charterhouse Square and six courtyard gardens within our walls. Charterhouse square is a rare green space open to everyone to enjoy on the border of Islington and the City of London.

Charterhouse Square is also open to enjoy from early in the morning until the evening, Tuesday to Saturday. It offers a green space in the heart of the city where you can relax or enjoy a picnic with the backdrop of our historic site.

Charterhouse Square This Square in its key position on the edge of the City and between the ancient areas of Smithfield and Clerkenwell has played a prominent part of London’s history from at least the mid 14th century.

The Charterhouse is an almshouse for residents aged over 60 and a heritage site, our historic buildings dating back to medieval and Tudor times are home to a vibrant contemporary community.
