Nikwax Down Wash vs Castile Soap/Salsuds - Backpacking Light
Oct 23, 2017 · All soaps are a form of detergent or surfactant. They generally all do *some* harm to down, but some is better than others. Graingers or Nikwax is what most consider soap. Use only about a tablespoon or so in a laundry cycle. Mostly, people oils/sweat and spills can be removed with water. Even water can kill down but very slowly.

Dec 27, 2006 · It is a not a soap, it is for household cleaning. It is to be used on "dishes, floors, laundry, etc." and is made with Fir and Spruce oils. It has no synthetic dyes, fragrances, or preservatives, and while it smells vaguely like pine-sol, its more like actual "forest" rather than "Industrial pine oil scented cleanser".

Sep 28, 2018 · Washing with soap and water is especially effective for oils and greases. Using alcohol-based hand sanitizers works well to kill microbes on your skin. I usually scrub with plain water and then use hand sanitizer. But use CampSuds for greasy hands or pots and periodically to wash my hair and body (well away from surface waters).
