Capitol Peak is notorious for being one of the most difficult 14ers in Colorado thanks to the infamous Knife Edge. Here's a recap of our experience.

The route is also known as the Knife Edge route and can be approached from either Capitol Creek and Lake or the West Snowmass Creek route. Capitol Creek is scenic and the easiest approach route in summer or fall.

Knife Edge. You may be thinking that the Knife Edge on Capitol Peak is a very long section of the ridge to the summit, but in reality, the Knife Edge’s is only about 20 ft. (6.1 m) or less.

In order to reach the top, you'll need to complete a long Class 3-4 scramble along a knife edge ridge with steep drop-offs on either side. This is the standard route to the peak's summit. Other routes may require parties to rope up for a technical climb.
