Birds of Sri Lanka by Deepal Warakagoda, Carol Inskipp, Tim Inskipp and Richard Grimmett. The categorization of bird species follows the structure provided by ' A Field Guide to the Birds of Sri Lanka by John Harrison ' and the same structure is used throughout the site.
Storks, Ibises and Spoonbills - birds-of-sri-lanka
First seen at Yala National Park and first photographed with my point-and-shoot. I came across another pair again at Yala. (Images 3 and 4) Images 5 and 15 are from Wilpattu National Park capturted during 2 separate trips.
Birds of Prey
Birds of Prey of Sri Lanka. The adult male Shikra in the first 2 images flew into my neighbours' backyard and was attacked by crows.
Thrushes and Pitta - birds-of-sri-lanka
This sighting was special. Walked for a long time before coming across 3 of them. Competing in the same area with 2 other Spot-winged Thrush. It is a bit unfortunate I couldn't take a video.
Pigeons and Doves - birds-of-sri-lanka
These guys are very common across the country. They are brave birds and do commonly build nests inside houses to lay their eggs. One pair actually had a nest on top of my mother’s cabinet in the bedroom. 1st photo was taken inside the bird’s enclosure in Dehiwala zoo.
