Jun 25, 2017 · It gives velocities above 1000 fps with 180 gr bullets in my MP 40 full size. It works OK with 165's, but seems to be most efficient with 180's. Longshot is a good powder too for .40SW. But, it works best near maximum charge and so if you don't want the recoil, it isn't ideal....But it does give the best/safest higher velocities.

Nov 19, 2010 · 40 cal and 9mm aren't as critical in short barrels. The 45acp is the one to worry about. It's already a slow moving bullet, and short barrels really rob the cartridge of velocity. For my G27 (40 compact), I don't carry any special ammo. Same as my full sized gun.

Some .40 owners/LE owners like the heavy 180gr JHP loads but I prefer the 135-165gr mid-weight JHPs.

Feb 11, 2012 · I own a Glock 27 in the .40 S&W and shoot 40'a a lot. If you reload .40's that have been fired in a Glock you most likely will need to address "Glock Bulge". The best tool I've used for this is the Redding G-RX Base Sizing Die. LEE makes a die as well. My advice is to use the Redding die, I had much better luck with it than I did the LEE.

Jan 2, 2010 · The winchester ranger stx was the Black Talon for awhile. dont know which is best. I think Hornady is making Critical Defense in 40 now. I would check some manufactor websites and see what weight,speed and resulting energy is. Stick with muzzle and 20 or 25 yards. Dont worry about the middle ground as it will even out at the 20-25 distance.
