Belfast is more than just a small town in the West part of New York State - it's a busy stop on State Route 19, with literally thousands of vehicles a day traveling through town. It is home to an estimated 1,700 people who live in or just outside of the community.
History - TOWN OF BELFAST
Belfast area was a battleground during the French and Indian War and the American revolution. In the early 1800's what is now Belfast was named Orrinsburg. This was then a farming community, a canal town and a main line on the anti-slavery's undergound railroad prior to the Civil War.
