Nov 30, 2015 · I usually get at least 5 good axe sheaths out of a bag. I would make one for hatchet size, one for boys axe size and a full size single and double bit as well. Make them adjustable to fit a range of axes. This way you can have your leather masks for any given axe or axes you bring out.

Apr 28, 2019 · Basic steps to go through to make a sheath:-Trace your axe head on both sides onto a piece of paper or cardstock and cut it out-See how the cardstock fits around the axe, leave a little room for tolerances to be adjusted later-Trace your final template onto leather with a sharpie-Cut it out with a utility knife (exacto and even a SAK will work too)

Kinda like a leather MOLLE or pouch attachment system. I wanted to strike the right balance of being over-the-top fancy and still keeping with the minimalist philosophy of bushcraft.

I prefer to carry my axe in a similar fashion, however I drop the axe thru the loop and then turn the handle toward the sky and secure the handle towards the top of the pack. I prefer to keep my pack weighted toward the bottom and not the top ( less swinging weight , lower center of gravity sort of thing ).
