In British English, "amongst" is still used, and is not considered archaic or pretentious. It's still less common than "among", and mainly reserved for formal writing.

In this time period, second person verbs would often end with ‘st’ and while ‘amongst’ isn’t a verb, since it’s pertaining to the second person, it makes more grammatical sense.
