Lake Aloha Trail is a 12.5 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Echo Lake, California that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as difficult. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

Head out on this 12.3-mile out-and-back trail near Echo Lake, California. Generally considered a challenging route, it takes an average of 5 h 28 min to complete. This is a very popular area for backpacking, camping, and fishing, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are June through October.

Lake Aloha is a large shallow backcountry reservoir located at an elevation of 8,116 ft (2,474 m) in the Sierra Nevada Range, west of Lake Tahoe in El Dorado County, in eastern California. The reservoir is located in Desolation Valley, within the federally protected Desolation Wilderness area.

The trail to Lake Aloha takes you through some of the most beautiful nature in the Lake Tahoe area. It’s got dramatic granite peaks, lush forests, and — since we went in winter — perfectly untouched, sparkling snow.

Dec 15, 2024 · Lake Aloha is a stunning destination for a backpacking trip, and 3 days is the perfect amount of time to spend in California’s Desolation Wilderness. This is recommended as one of the best places to backpack to near Lake Tahoe, and we finally managed to book a trail permit in 2024 summer.

Dec 20, 2016 · Distance: about 12 miles round trip. Elevation gain: 1000ft. You'll start the hike at the Echo Lakes trailhead, just off of Highway 50 in Lake Tahoe. The trail meanders past Lower and Upper Echo Lakes, slowly gaining altitude as you pass a smattering of summer cabins. The climb is enough to make you feel it, but before you know it, it's over.

Best alpine lake in all of Tahoe! Trail is rocky, making it tough to run, but you can pick your spots. Total elevation was just over 2k, so not super steep as far as climbing.

One of the prettiest spots in the Sierra Nevada mountains is conveniently located near Lake Tahoe. The hike to Lake Aloha passes several other alpine lakes along the way. It’s not easy — almost six miles, one way, with about a thousand foot elevation gain — but every step brings you closer to a little slice of heaven.
