Adamsville is a city in western Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. It is north from the Birmingham suburb of Pleasant Grove. It initially incorporated in 1901 (although the 1910 U.S. Census stated 1900), but disincorporated in 1915. [3] It later reincorporated in 1953. [4]

Adamsville became something of a boom town in 1890 after a large coal seam was discovered nearby. Coal mining and coke ovens became driving forces in the local economy. A fire destroyed much of the downtown area in 1918, including the original depot, which was quickly rebuilt.
