This form is used to obtain a release from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and notify ATF of actual importation of defense articles imported pursuant to an approved ATF Form 6.
ATF Form 6A (5330.3C) is required for every importation of firearm(s), ammunition, and/or defense articles, with certain exceptions listed in 27 CFR Parts 447 and 478.

Commercial firms (i.e., firearms importers, dealers, DOD civilians, military dependents, etc.) must use ATF Form 6 -Part I (5330.3A) to apply for permission to import firearms, ammunition, and defense articles. The use or sale of firearms (including antique firearms) or ammunition is taxable in certain situations.
