7Cr17Mov vs 8Cr13Mov? - BladeForums.com
Aug 29, 2019 · I've had enough knives in 8Cr13Mov to notice small differences between brands. Being on a budget, 9Cr18Mov is the steel that first clued me in to bigger differences. Setting aside corrosion resistance, I had a few knives in 9Cr18Mov that didn't really impress me. The edge retention and overall cutting performance weren't much better than 8Cr13Mov.
8Cr13MoV - BladeForums.com
Mar 22, 2008 · 8Cr13MoV is a chinese copy of AUS8 so it's pretty much the same but a lower quality version. The grade is as good as the people making it, this is a grade that pretty much any chinese steel mill can make and I would suspect that …
AUS-8 vs 8Cr13MoV steel for EDC knives? - BladeForums.com
Mar 2, 2014 · In CATRA lab tests at Spyderco, 8Cr13MoV edge retention was in the area of AUS-8. The steel held thin edge angles quite well and would perform at a fairly hard Rc. Corrosion resistance was not as good as AUS-8. AUS-8 will get sharper as the steel has a very homogenous grain structure and the foundry, Aichi in Japan, does a very good job at ...
8cr13mov vs s30v - BladeForums.com
Mar 6, 2012 · 8cr13mov is a Chinese steel that was touted as being like 440C when first introduced. According to Sal Glesser this steel is closer to AUS-8 (AUS8) than American 440C, and is often compared to AUS-8 and 440B. Often considered to be a high end budget steel (an oxymoron if there ever was one).
VG-10 vs. 8Cr13Mov (Spyderco vs. Byrd) - BladeForums.com
Feb 3, 2009 · So I recently got a Spyderco Endura 4 and love the quality of the blade steel (although the handle seems a little unimpressive, but I digress). My question is how much better is the VG-10 steel in a Spyderco vs. the 8Cr13Mov steel in a Byrd? I am interested in getting at least one more, but I could get 3 or 4 Byrds for the same price.
Steel Comparison 440A versus 8Cr13MoV - BladeForums.com
Dec 29, 2012 · I prefer 8CR13MOV as a budget steel because I find that it takes a much higher sharpness than 440A. There is nothing wrong with 440A, provided that it is done reasonably well. It is a tough, easy to sharpen steel with good corrosion resistance. People seem to forget that 12C27 (the steel in Mora knives) is very similar to 440A.
8CR13MOV rust and stains? - BladeForums.com
Apr 12, 2009 · And the steel itself (8Cr13MoV) is sort of on the 'threshold' of not being stainless. The 'Cr13' in the name is a reference to the percentage of chromium content in the alloy. 13% is what usually defines 'stainless'. Less than that, and a …
Kershaw - 8CR13MoV | BladeForums.com
Mar 3, 2006 · Based on the experience of many people, Kershaw's 8CR13MoV seems very comparable to Spyderco or Cold Steel's AUS8 in general performance. The quality control is very high, and many knives, such as the Oso Sweet, the Chill, and the OD-2 are very well recommended by their owners as low cost EDC knives.
8Cr13MoV Vs. Cold Steel AUS8 - BladeForums.com
Apr 17, 2010 · I prefer Aus-8 over 8cr13Mov, generally. It probably varies from company to company (I have used 8cr13MoV steel in a couple of knives, but not Kershaw blades specifically), but in general I've found that 8cr13MoV is much more prone to chipping than Aus-8, which I absolutely can't stand.
Buck's 420HC vs 8CR13MoV - BladeForums.com
Jul 30, 2012 · In terms of potential Buck 420HC has pretty much reached the limits of the 420HC steel's potential and it doesn't quite hold as much potential in theory as 8Cr13MoV however my experience with Kershaw 8Cr13MoV was disappointing I don't feel it compares to Buck 420HC however I do find my CRKT 8Cr14MoV, not sure the difference in 13 and 14, is a ...
