Apr 29, 2012 · The interface to engine is similar (bell housing bolt pattern), but the 68RFE uses a separate transmission controller. The 68RFE controller interfaces with the engine controller for exhaust brake operation, etc. Therefore, retrofitting the 68RFE into a 5.9-liter truck is not feasible due to incompatibility with the 5.9-liter engine controller.

Aug 11, 2015 · 68RFE Trans Relearn - SUCCESS! I have had issues with my 2011 68RFE for years with a very hard downshift under low throttle coasting downshifts from 6-5 and 5-4. The transmission would not not unlock the converter and the shift was brutal. I thought this was related to the H&S programmer, but eliminated that possibility with help from H&S.

The main thing is to make sure you keep the transmission cool temperature. Also, stop before changing gears. When towing keep from doing hard kick downshifts when passing.

Jun 15, 2017 · Around 240 is time for a fluid and filter change and add a cooler. A while back I watched a 68RFE being broken down to be rebuilt on YouTube. It was from a tow truck that had submerged the tranny. The tech said the 68RFE is a good tranny, just don't get it wet inside as the water causes delamination of the disks.
