May 13, 2020 · The 35 Whelen built it's reputation with 250gr. bullets, and most feel that it is the best all around bullet weight for the 35 Whelen. Col. Whelen and Elmer Keith both liked 275gr. bullets in their 35's, but they did not have the bullets we do today. 225 an 250gr. bullets will be my main bullets, but want to try the 275's and see how they do.

Aug 22, 2017 · I can highly recommend two loads for the 35 Whelen, the 200 gr Hornady Superformance for Deer and Hog and the 250 gr Nosler Partition for African PG. IMO the 35 Whelen and the 250 gn NP is a match made in heaven.

Dec 17, 2015 · The .35 Whelen works well with all barrel twist rates including 1:12, 1:14 and 1:16. Remington utilize the 1:16 twist rate for their rifles however the common 1:12 twist rate found on custom rifles is good for all .358” caliber bullets traveling below 2900fps.

Jan 9, 2019 · With Hogdon CFE223 the standard Whelen can be given a real set of balls. Check out the speer reloading site for the 250 grainer, you can get up to 2,700fps. The 225s get along at 2,900fps. By the time you fireform the case to AI you have wasted powder, projectiles and primers that could have been used for proper loads in the standard Whelen.

Dec 8, 2017 · I sold my country place and have some hand loaded ammo for the 35 Whelen I don’t have a rifle for anymore. Space is at a premium but I can’t just junk it. Almost 200 rounds; REM Whelen brass, 225gr Sierra boat tail game kings. They are necked sized with an over Sami COL, so you will mostly likely need to have dies to shorten.
