The 20th Fighter Wing is a wing of the United States Air Force and the host unit at Shaw Air Force Base South Carolina. The wing is assigned to Air Combat Command 's Fifteenth Air Force.

The 20th Fighter Wing executed combat air patrol missions over major U.S. cities following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in New York and Washington D.C., and continues to perform in the homeland defense role.

Shaw Air Force Base is home to the 20th Fighter Wing, which serves as the installation's host unit. Shaw Weasels prepare, employ and sustain combat ready suppression of enemy air defense and attack F-16 airpower and deliberately develop combat ready Airmen to win our nation’s wars.

Today's 20th Fighter Wing can trace its lineage to 28 July 1947, when the 20th Fighter Wing, began at Shaw Field, South Carolina, as a Ninth Air Force unit. Components of the new fighter wing included the 20th Maintenance and Supply Group, the 20th Airdrome Group, and the 20th Station Medical Group (later Tactical Hospital).

The 20th Fighter Wing Association began in the early sixties as a reunion group and was incorporated in 1993. The purpose of the Association is to preserve the military history and esprit de corps of past and present members of the 20th Fighter Wing and all previous and subsequent military iterations of that organization.

The 20th Fighter Bomber Wing established an operational detachment at Wheelus AB, Libya in February 1958. The flying squadrons dispersed on a monthly rotational basis to RAF Alconbury, RAF Woodbridge, and Nouasseur AB, Morrocco, due to a RAF Wethersfield runway closure from May to August, 1958.
