Jun 5, 2021 · The 12AX7 is used in most tube amplifiers. I think I heard about every 12AX7 tube ever made including rare European tubes as I owned 1000s of NOS tubes. I bought the NOS tubes from closed organ shops and businesses that specialized in tube audio many years ago. There are no organ shops now that have large tube stocks.

Aug 3, 2018 · The Mullard 12AX7 long plate square getter is the best I ever heard. Seller stated Telefunken 803s are not as good at $1K+ each. A tube I thought is better than the 3rd place Mullard 12AX7 round plate are the Raytheon 5751 windmill getter. All are black plates. These windmill getter way outperform the Raytheon 12AX7 black plate by a mile!

3,644. Feb 2, 2017. #19. FWIW this is a comparison of a Tung-Sol RI with an EHX 12AX7. Both low in noise with the same rated gain factor (although this can vary a bit from tube to tube). The Tung-Sol is a bit stronger in the mids which could be heard as "bassier" whereas the EHX is a bit stronger in the highs.

Feb 5, 2018 · Myself. Most gear sounds best with RCA grey or black long plate 12AX7. I do not hear much difference in the gray or black long plate, but the black plate have a tendency to get noisy whereas the gray plate does not. For some reason a Telefunken 12AX7 ribbed plate sounds better in a Pioneer SX-34. The plate voltage is around 100 volts vs the RCA ...

The telefunkens made my system sound balanced as well, while being more transparent, however, the bass was cleaner, more articulated than the rca's. Lastly, the shuguang 12AX7's were not so great, with these 3 all being significant improvements compared them.

Dec 15, 2020 · had a psvane 12ax7 t mk 2 in my Croft.To my ears ,the gold lion ,and the jj gold pin 12ax7 were better.But im using a Telefunken ecc83 now,and this works better than all for me .My Croft only uses one,12ax7,ecc83,so been able to roll a lot of new,and old nos tubes.Telefunken is best,folloewd my Amperex bugle boy,and mullard m1837 .

Mar 3, 2005 · My EAR 834P Chinese clone Phono preamp works great with Ei's ECC83/12AX7 and ECC82/12AU7 (as a V3 that is used as a "buffer tube" on a cathode follower configuration), it also likes some Hitachi 12AX7 and 12AU7, and Matsushita 12AX7 and 12AU7.
