War Sphinxes were midsize Forerunner fighting suits used during the time of the Human-Forerunner wars. [1] They were powerful war machines that were generally dropped from high orbit, and were capable of sweeping continents and decimating entire cities.

They usually served as ship escorts, or as fighter-bombers capable of leveling entire cities. They could also transform to have arms and legs to act as bipedal combat vehicles.

In battle, Warrior-Servants wore varying types of fighting suits - combat skins - the war sphinx being an example of a medium-sized suit. Warrior armour was designed to optimise itself to counter enemy weaponry; this ability was capable of making their armour virtually invulnerable to repeated discharges from Forerunner infantry weapons. War sphinxes were widely used by Warrior-Servants during the Human-Forerunner War. They were used at the battle of the human capital Charum Hakkor, in which they were sent in cloud like formations to overwhelm human ships, causing some to crash into Precursor star roads.

These attempts at making them fearsome is pointless as it's just making them look WEIRD. I felt that mysteriousness was what made Forerunner machines fearsome.
