Nov 23, 2015 · The trend (Hwando favoring curve) was slow; even Chosun still had some straight-backed Hwando while also having curved Hwando. As for the degrees of the curve, they varied, but Korean tended to do slight curve (almost straight) rather than big curve like Mongol or Japan.

May 15, 2020 · I tend to often see the opposite being stated incorrectly, i.e. that korean hwando were based on the katana. Unfortunately korean history is very poorly understood in the west and japanese history & imagery is better known so people are misled by cosmetic similarities.

FYI, this techinicaly isn't a katana, it's a traditional Korean sword called hwando. They kinda have the same ancestor from ancient Chinese and nomadic swords, but they then evolved independently since. Big difference is the tassel decoration on the end of the handle, which is usually not present in katana.
