Why did the AR-18 fail? - AR15.COM
Sep 22, 2020 · It's one of the most copied small arms. A design can be widely copied and still be a commercial failure for the people who developed it. Because the ar-15 didn't need replacing, and the 18 while a fine design, looks like a cheap piece of trash. Also IIRC it would have needed further tweaking to be fit for service.

Velocity and accuracy difference between 18" and 20" barrel
May 1, 2009 · By the way, the actual chronographed difference between all of my 20" barrels and my 16" barrels is 200 fps. I shoot 68/69 grain match bullets mostly. 2750 fps = 20", 2550 fps = 16". 100 fps would be about right. The velocity difference is not linear; there is much less fps lost going from 20" to 18" than there is going from 18" to 16".

Oct 15, 2022 · The weight difference between the 16" pencil-profile barrel and the 18" "Gunner" profile barrel is 5.6 ounces. If I had used Faxon's "Gunner" profile for both barrels, the weight difference would only have been 3.36 ounces. Gunner profile should be the default standard AR15 BBL profile. Apr 27, 2015 · ArmaLite also offered a 1" scope mount to fit scopes like a Weaver K2.5. Later on in the 80s-90s B Square had a AR-180 scope mount and when the AR-180B was introduced that model also had a 1" scope mount similar to the original. There's no logical reason why anyone would want to swap Colt and ArmaLite scopes/bases.
