NRSC/ISRO has prepared district wise flood hazard zonation atlas for Bihar state using the available historical satellite datasets spanning over 13 years and intra annual flood variations from 1998 to 2010.
These maps show areal extent of flood water spread. The inundation extent is derived from RADARSAT Layers/Imagery provided by NRSC in processed 1 bit image format.
FMISC, Bihar, Patna issues Daily Flood Information Bulletin during monsoon season generally from 15th June to 15th October. Daily water level and flood forecast data issued by central water commission. WRD gauges and discharge data also included.
Under ISRO-DMS programme, NRSC has been monitoring and mapping floods in Bihar State for more than two decades . Flood maps derived from 274 satellite images over 22 years (1998- 2019) obtained from 15 Space Missions are used. CWC’s gauge data of 40 stations in computing district level hazard index.

regions of Bihar during the fourth week of August , 2023 has led to floods in Bihar State. We have analyzed RISAT-1A (EOS04) MRS SAR satellite data of 22nd August 2023 (0600 Hrs IST) and a flood inundation map for part of Bihar State is prepared. The map along with a brief report is enclosed herewith for your kind information.

Flood hazards are classified into 5 categories from very high to very low. - The atlas provides an updated flood hazard assessment, building on the previous 2013 version which used data from 1998-2010.
