A lot of engines would be happy on either one, but there are some cases where one or the other really does better. 6.0 Powerstroke does very well on a 30 weight, the 6.7 probably should run a 40 because the oil gets some fuel dilution. Lets put it in terms we can all understand. 15w40 and 10w30.

Reference: John Rosenbaum, Chevron (link) "The Ford manual says for severe service run 5w-40." Translation: To maintain the same OCI for severe service, use a synthetic oil.

Sep 8, 2018 · 5W -30 C. 10W -25 C. 15W -20 C. It says 15W will crank at a acceptable rate down to -20 C and I believe the anecdotal information supports that. However, if you want to be kind to your engine, at -20 C I personally would use a 0w40 or 5w40 because there are so many good HDEO's avaiable in those weights.

May 14, 2007 · Traveller 15w40 Diesel oil has had a decent reputation over the years and was made by Warren Distrubution however now it apparently is made by Martin Lubricants. Does any of you have any info on it. I know it’s on Fordsapproved list I’m just curious about the additive package in this CJ-4 / SN oil now made by a different company.

Hard to find locally, but easy to order and free shipping for orders over $300. For non-synthetic oil, I would buy on price/quantity.

May 18, 2004 · In the truck I mix 9 qts of Delvac 15w-40 and 3 qts of Mobil 1 T&S 5w-40, so there shouldn't be a problem with the 40 weight, and thinner than an assumed 12.5 is fine for better cold starts. In the cars I mix 1 qt of Mobil 1 T&S 5w-40 with either 4 qts of Mobil 5w-30 or Mobil 10w-30, so thinner is again fine.

Aug 10, 2021 · The Rotella is not JASO certified and per Shell according to their inhouse testing they say it meets the spec. I use Valvoline Full Synthetic Motorcycle oil in my Ninja 650 that calls for 10w40, they also make it in 20w50, at Walmart they are selling it …

Next oil change going to the Full synthetic 15/40 Rotella. I was using the required 10/30 wt and it was leaking to much for me and consumption was 1/4 qt. per cutting. Switched to the 15/40 less leaks ...
