SAN DIEGO (AP) — Southern California was jolted Monday morning by a strong earthquake near San Diego. The earthquake, at 10:08 a.m., had a preliminary magnitude of 5.2 and was near the mountain town of Julian, east of San Diego, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

According to the United States Geological Survey, the quake was centered south of Julian, Calif., at a depth of 13.4 km.
