The list, which unveils world's poorest countries marred by crippling poverty, features Madagascar, an Island nation which has friendly ties with India, in the 10th spot.

Niger is one of the poorest countries in the world with high levels of poverty. In 2023, 48.4% of its population lived in extreme poverty, with low life expectancy and high infant mortality.

The poorest countries are among the main beneficiaries of aid from the International Development Association under the World Bank, which provides loans and grants to low-income countries.
