Former San Antonio Poet Laureate Octavio Quintanilla’s “The Book of Wounded Sparrows” made the longlist for the 2024 National Book Awards for Poetry but it is not among the finalists announced today.

The National Book Awards has announced its 25 finalists in the Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, Translated Literature and Young People’s Literature categories, several of whom are first-time honorees, according to the National Book Foundation.

Percival Everett’s “James,” Salman Rushdie’s “Knife” and Diane Seuss’ “Modern Poetry” are among the honorees. Winners will be announced next month.
