Everybody’s back. Or nearly everyone. Eighteen players who opened the season for the Detroit Tigers in Chicago in 2024 will take the field a year later in Los Angeles for Opening Day 2025. Twenty players from that group remain in the organization.

The Los Angeles Dodgers won the 2024 World Series — and the MLB offseason. They are celebrating accordingly. The defending champions celebrated their eighth title in franchise history on Thursday with their Dodger Stadium opener after beginning the season a week earlier in the Tokyo Series.

The Tokyo Series jumpstarted MLB's 2025 regular season schedule on March 18-19, with the defending World Series champion Dodgers earning a two-game sweep over the Cubs at the Tokyo Dome. But that was just a sneak preview of sorts.

The Giants also quietly tied a very obscure MLB record during their first game of the season against the Reds. With Heliot Ramos starting in left field for the Giants, the NL West club has now gone 19 consecutive Opening Days with a different player at the position. The only other team to do so was the St. Louis Browns from 1937 to 1955.

Baseball fans rejoice! The Washington Nationals return to the field Thursday for opening day as they host the Philadelphia Phillies to open its 2025 season.

LOS ANGELES -- Right-handed reliever Jason Foley, who earned 28 saves as the Detroit Tigers’ primary closer in 2024, will not make the Opening Day roster in 2025. The Tigers optioned Foley to Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday as they prepare to set their roster for the season opener on Thursday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
