Maserati has officially announced the cancellation of the MC20 Folgore, an all-electric supercar that had been highly anticipated as a spearhead for the brand's electric vehicle strategy. Originally unveiled in 2020,

The Maserati MC20 supercar has been a critical success, if not exactly a sales success. Despite that, the Italian automaker has decided to cancel production of the all-electric version, dubbed the MC20 Folgore. The move signals a retreat from Maserati's earlier commitment to go all-electric by 2030 and launch six EVs by 2026.

Electric motors are, in so many ways, much better than internal combustion engines. They don't waste most of the energy you put into them as heat and sound, they're easy to control, and they make huge amounts of torque almost instantly.

Autocar reports the battery-electric version of Maserati’s MC20 supercar is canceled. The MC20 Folgore was expected to launch this year and was mentioned when the MC20 was revealed in 2020. A Maserati spokesperson has confirmed the project has been discontinued.

Maserati had promised fully electric versions of every model by 2025, but in its great greening it's so far only deleted V-8 engines.
