Ten of the 11 Alameda County sheriff’s deputies and jail clinicians charged in the 2021 death of Maurice Monk have turned themselves in to authorities, Santa Rita Jail records show.

The outgoing Alameda County District Attorney on Tuesday charged nine sheriff's deputies and two medical employees with the death of an Oakland man who had been languishing in his Santa Rita Jail cell for days before anyone noticed he was no longer alive.

Alameda County prosecutors have filed criminal charges against nine sheriff’s deputies and two medical professionals who allegedly willfully neglected a sickly jailed man who died in his cell. All 11 jail staffers were charged with dependent-adult abuse,
