My 5-year-old could identify a butterfly's life cycle but not a nickel. It was my wake-up call to start teaching him about money.
As he explained how a caterpillar formed a chrysalis and then metamorphosed into a butterfly ... me to see if he knew the names of the coins. Holding out a nickel, I asked what it was.
