A volcano spewed lava and smoke over southwestern Iceland for a second day on Friday raising fears of spreading pollution hours after its eruption forced the evacuation of a spa resort. Fountains of glowing molten rock shot into the night sky when the volcano first erupted on the Reykjanes peninsula on Thursday.

A volcano in Iceland began erupting on the the Reykjanes Peninsula on Thursday spewing lava from a fissure in the Sundhnúkur crater, not far from the Blue Lagoon global tourist attraction which blasted volcano alarms for tourists to evacuate which led to a deluge of panicked tourist videos across social media.

Lava continued to spew from a volcano in southwestern Iceland on Friday — the sixth time since December the volcano has erupted on the Reykjanes Peninsula.
