NEW YORK — Ricardo Scofidio, an architect who transformed an abandoned railway into New York City's popular High Line park and was among the first in his profession to win a MacArthur Foundation “genius grant,” has died. He was 89 and had worked on museums, college buildings and other projects around the world.

Architect Ricardo Scofidio, whose work co-designing museums, art venues and public spaces reshaped America’s cultural landscape, has died age 89.

With Diller Scofidio + Renfro, he brought a conceptual-art sensibility to cultural landmarks like Lincoln Center and to innovative public spaces like Manhattan’s High Line.

The Diller Scofidio + Renfro co-founder was behind iconic New York City designs like the High Line and Lincoln Center revamp.

Ricardo Scofidio, an architect who helped reshape the museum landscape in the US, died on Thursday at 89. His death was announced by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the firm he founded with his wife Elizabeth Diller in 1997.
