The Chrysler Building is amazing architecturally but it doesn’t compete with the Empire State Building because you cannot go in it. It’s funny that the closer you get to it the less you can see. Defi… Full review by FLHarlock

As someone who's been obsessed with White Collar since my teenage years, this was such a highlight. One of the best Art Deco architecture in NYC and watching it from up close was amazing. Full review by CitizenofTravels

The viewing deck at the Chrysler Building has been closed for decades, so get your Manhattan views either at 30 Rock or the Empire State, or the magnificent One World Trade observatory downtown. BUT, don't miss the Chrysler Bldg...the others are just high views; this building is pure art, like nothing else in the world. The very coolest introduction to it is a short old BBC Documentary hosted by actor John Malkovich. It online on YouTube. Search for BBC documentary, Chrysler Bldg, Malkovich. You'll see the unforgettable lobby with its 30 elevators, the largest ceiling mural in the world (for its time), and the decor that was the absolute peak of the Art Deco style. Malcovich takes you up to the top, and you see the world famous eagle-headed gargoyles up close, and the original private quarters of Mr. Chrysler. Wildest of all, there is old film of the architect wearing a hat in the shape of the famous spire of the building at the opening celebration in 1929/30, and a group of dancers dressed as "Machine Men" prancing around the parapets. Best of all, you'll see the absolutely stunning array of pointed windows culminating in the sharp spire...with great shots of it all, by day and by night.

Bear in mind that any building you go up will not have that building in the view, so I would recommend going up the rock or one world, as you'll want the Chrysler or the empire state in your view. And eat somewhere else entirely as you'll be paying well over the odds at any of those buildings.

Sadly you can only go into the lobby as it is a working building. The lobby, however, should not be missed. It is a truly spectacular example of Art Deco design, the Jazz Age at its finest. You can see the beautiful mural on the ceiling, the clock and the beautiful elevators, each with their own custom design on the doors. The lobby is open Monday through Friday, from 8am to 6pm. The nearest subway is the 4, 5 and 6 trains at 42nd Street Grand Central.
