A must-do experience if you are in the region. We arrived around 5.30pm, approximately 2 hours before sunset. There were quite a lot of people but the dunes are expansive so it is very easy to find… Full review by Christine P

It's hard to believe what you are seeing when you first sight the dune. The journey to the top is worth it as the views of sea and land are magical. Full review by Stanleytraveler

Thanks for your replies! thought in late june, sunset happens around 9:30p.m. local time or so and if I try to reach the dune parking lot by 5:30p.m. (planning to take an earlier train and rent a car from Bordeaux), wouldn't that give me a good 3-4hr. window? from the reviews, I read evening is much better as well...please advise

How long would it take ? That would depend on where you were cycling from I guess ! There is nothing much in the area other than campsites, forestry and the beach.
