We didn't hike other than to hike from the parking areas to the beach which one was at least a half mile from parking to the beach. You can walk the beach for miles, it's flat & walkable. But realize it's cool & windy in the summer. Not Seattle temperatures. In August there were few people around. Very different from Southern California.

No camping directly on the beach, as far as I've been able to tell. However, there is a camping area right on the other side of the dunes. You wouldn't want to rent right on the beach here anyway. Two weekends ago, we had 30-40 foot waves and the waves actually came past the dunes. The camp ground area is the right spot, and only a minute walk to the sand.
