Troup is a city in Smith and Cherokee counties in Texas, United States. Its population was 2,006 at the 2020 census. Troup lies in two counties in East Texas. Troup is situated between the two very old Choctaw, Chickasaw, Cherokee, and Creek intertribal settlements of Nanih Shinuk and Ofunlo Hina. Descendants of these peoples still live there as part of the state-recognized Mount Tabor Indian Community.
