On January 1, 2014, the city merged with the neighboring city of East Carbon. Sunnyside is located southeast of the center of Carbon County and is east of East Carbon. Price, the county seat, is 26 miles to the west. Before its merger with East Carbon, Sunnyside had a total area of 3.1 square miles, all of it land.
