No, the Hobson House was not finished until after the Civil War in 1872. The thirteen amendment to the Constitution abolished slavery in the US and was ratified in December 1865. …

No, the Hobson House was not finished until after the Civil War in 1872. The thirteen amendment to the Constitution abolished slavery in the US and was ratified in December 1865. Slaves did help produce bricks and harvest other materials for the foundation/basement of the house in 1857. The Hobsons wanted a farm to raise thoroughbred horses but all barns, outbuildings, except an old gable/garage, are gone now. I have never seen a reference or information on slave breeding by the Hobson Family. Eileen Starr
