As far as state parks go, it's ok. Probably great for RV camping, as we saw tons of them. Tent camping...not at all. The sites are right on top of each other. It was a busy weekend and we heard c… Full review by katiebugggggggg

Beautiful Park! We had a site (052) so close to the water, when you woke up in the morning you could see the sunset over the lake. Awesome! This park is very well maintained. The bathhouses are very… Full review by Purple3232
I'm planning to camp here next week. Going with 3 kids; 6 years and under. Also first time campers. What supplies do I need? What do I need for outdoor camping; any supply store someone can recommend close to Dallas or Plano? Will appreciate suggestions. Thanks

Wow, three first timers. Should be fun! From the ground up, you need a bunch of stuff. First, you need a decent, sturdy tend that sleeps 6. Since you are going in the summer, make sure it ventilates well. Buy a inexpensive tarp to go under the tent. A good cooler to store the cold stuff would be required. Some kind of padding to sleep upon. If you don't want to buy anything, a few blankets, etc might work; otherwise a couple of full sized air mattresses. I would just take a few sheets to cover up with; don't invest in sleeping bags no one will use. Take some wood to cook dogs a smores, or whatever, unless you want to buy a stove and take a bunch of utensils. In your campbox take what you need to cook with, along with insect repellent, sun screen, first aid kit, some light rope, extra tent stakes, paper towels, eating utensils, and personal items. Don't pack too many clothes; couple of changes will suffice. Don't worry too much about sundries, there is a pretty decent store not too far from the Isle Du Bois entrance. Other than that: Good luck and enjoy!
We are coming with a large horse trailer and would love to know where the equestrian trail heads are.

I haven't camped there with horses but I have been in that area. You will camp in the Blue Stem campground. There are two equestrian specific (though others can use them) trails that go out from there. Both are quite long but are out and back trails. The north trail goes to the far north end of the park, ending at a small lake. Note that mountain bike trails are also in the area, but I'm not sure if they share with horses. The south trail goes through the park, through the interpretive trail near the headquarters, under the highway, then connects up with the Ray Roberts greenbelt trail. Google maps satellite view, combined with a PDF park map found on the parks web site will show you where it all is. I suggest you bring plenty of shade as the equestrian area is very sunny.
