We are very excited to visit Martinique this winter with our kids - mostly planning on a beach vacation, staying in Sainte-Anne. I've read that the beaches there are very beautiful, with good amenities - however, it sounds like they are very calm and shallow ("great for kids" as many reviews note). Our kids are older and quite adventurous in the water; they really like to get out and brave some bigger waves. Any recommendations for a slightly rougher beach in Martinique? Thanks!

It's not close - about a 1 hour drive from Fort de France where the cruise ships dock. If you want a beach and something that is easy to do (that is not an excursion), then look at the the ferry from FDF to Trois de Ilets and Anse Mitan which is a beautiful beach with a beautiful view. There are nice restaurants along the beach as well. There are public bathrooms too. Pointe Marin is lovely and lively too and close to town. But I don't know how much it would cost you to get there and back.
