Out of all the beaches in Phuket we visited Kamala was the nicest. It genuinely felt like a tropical beach and wasn't cluttered with filthy umbrellas and loungers as Kata beach was. Beautiful sunsets… Full review by UKTradewinds

Car hire is cheap and readily available in the town and the roads are good and safe to drive on, also scooters and moped are plentiful and very cheap to hire if you’re feeling a little more adventurous! As an alternative you may wish to consider hiring a taxi for the day we have done this several times over the years and generally pay about £30 for about 6-8 hours which is fantastic value just negotiate with driver before hand and have an idea of where you want to go.

Hi, I'm thinking going to Kamala in November this year and was wondering if there are enough bars at night to keep a couple occupied for 11 nights? Don't need banging nightlife just some nice restauarants and bars playing live music.

In kamala, there are only a few bar with walking distant, which are all good, including western food or local Thai food. Kamala Beach itself has night market festival (temporary set up to sell food and souvenirs, not sure if they do it every day). There are also 7-11 or Family Mart within walking distant (if you prefer sandwiches). It is best to have your rented scooter to drive around to other towns if you prefer, or ask for Tuk Tuk (cheap and convenience local taxi). If you drive the rented scooter, restaurants are all easy access, mostly along the shoreline, just need to ask around, Thai people are very friendly.

Hello Barry, the area where the illegal bars were situated is still cleared and will probably stay cleared. You have to walk a little bit direction to Surin. Then on height of Tsunami warning tower there are a few shops on the beach during day time combined with sunbed rental. Bar scene starts then again with coconut garden and continues up to Nanork restaurant. Have fun! Claus
