Probably one of our favourite hikes to do in Iceland. Once parked up, make sure you're prepared for a good, steep hike, with the reward of beautiful , stunning scenery round every corner and a free s… Full review by Tour42824353594

Awesome hike within 45 minutes of downtown Reykjavik. Plenty of parking, and during business hours there is a nice coffee shop with food/beer at the base. It took me slightly under 1 hr to reach the … Full review by AustintoBoston

One of the best things we did in Iceland. The walk is quite hard work - uphill most of the way and very windy but well worth it. The river hot springs bit is great. Not much space and no facilities b… Full review by domglon

From what I’ve read elsewhere, it seems that bathing in the river nude is not prohibited, but that most tourists choose to wear swimsuits. So many people go in the water nude, and can you get in trouble for doing so? Given it’s in the middle of nowhere and there aren’t strict ‘rules’ I assume it’s OK?

I’ll speak as an Icelander. You can go nude no problem at all, Icelanders will not care and there is no law against nudity in Iceland. Indecent exposure is illegal so long as you don’t …

I’ll speak as an Icelander. You can go nude no problem at all, Icelanders will not care and there is no law against nudity in Iceland. Indecent exposure is illegal so long as you don’t stand in front of people doing the “helicopter” you should be fine. It may shock some puritan tourists but who cares, it’s their shame not yours. If you consider being topless nude you may like to know that women can walk around topless wherever they want. Downtown Reykjavík if they choose to do so. Iceland is body positive country and quite liberal when it comes to nudity. I saw some other people say otherwise but it’s incorrect. Free your Willy… we don’t care.

Wondering if there is there any kind of washroom facility at the car park?

At the start of the hike there is an outdoor toilet. It is free so take advantage of it. Bring a plastic bag to put your wet clothes. We were there in October and it was chilly. So highly recommend somw flip flops in your bag so when you get out your feer arent cold. Also there is no privacy when changing. We wore our swim gear under our clothes on hike up.
Q:
How strenuous is the hike? I will be 6 months pregnant and not very athletic.

The hike is somewhat strenuous. We started the hike with my mom who is 75 and she decided to quit about a quarter of the way up. Both me and my friend (50) continued on and made it all the way to the springs. We did stop a few times because it is entirely uphill and also started snowing heavily (we were there in October). I think that if you give yourself plenty of time and stop when you are out of breath, you will be fine.
